Try Something New (A Moment On Monday – 1/24/2011)

Happy Monday!

Do you remember the joy and excitement that you felt as a child when you tried something new and accomplished it?  Whether it was learning to walk or to ride a bike, the satisfaction of a first time success exhilarated us.

As children our lives were filled with many firsts.  Those victories built our confidence and inspired us to venture out and try other things.  We wanted to know more about our world, and we explored it with little to no concern about making mistakes.  But as many of us grew into adults, we settled into routines that became our lives.  We became comfortable with what we knew how to do and we stopped trying new things.  There is nothing inherently wrong with living a life filled with the routine, but when we only encounter the familiar we stop growing.  Trying something new can help us discover more about ourselves.

When was the last time that you tried something new?  If you have to think about it for too long,  it’s probably time to add a little spice to your life.  Even something as simple as taking a class on something that you’ve always wanted to learn such as sewing or salsa dancing can help re-energize you.  What are you going to do to step out of your box and try something new?  I wish you wonderful new experiences.

Martin Luther King Day: Knowing Our History

Happy Monday!

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  This is a good opportunity for us to stop and look at our past.  It took all of our past, the good and the bad, to bring us to where we are today.  Dr. King worked for a better world for all, and his vision of removing social and economic barriers and building community is as relevant today as it was when he lived.

As we celebrate Dr. King’s vision, let’s reflect on our past.  Knowing our history helps us to know our greatness and to avoid making the same mistakes again.  It’s time to remember.  What challenges have you overcome?  What successes have you achieved?

Happy Monday!

I sat down to write today’s post and realized that I did not know what to write about.  Regardless of how much a writer writes, she must always begin again when she starts a new project.

Life is like that.  Everyday we start again.  Since each day is a new beginning, let’s start the day by focusing on what can be rather than what might have been.  Have a wonderful week, one day at a time.

Happy first Monday of 2011!  I hope that the new year is off to a good start for everyone.  Here is a little food for thought as we lay the foundation for this year.

“Before you speak, listen.  Before you write, think.  Before you spend, earn.  Before you invest, investigate.  Before you criticize, wait.  Before you pray, forgive.  Before you quit, try.  Before you retire, save.  Before you die, give.”  – William Arthur Ward

Happy Monday!

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas.  As we approach the end of the year many of us are turning our attention toward the coming year.  We are assessing the results of our efforts in 2010 and looking for ways to make 2011 a better year.  Some of us will continue on our same path.  Others will vow to make a change.  Regardless of whether we choose to stay our current course or re-direct our lives, the first order of business is to know ourselves.  Until we know who we are, nothing else makes sense in our lives.

Blessings!

Happy Monday!

Most of us dream of doing something that we currently are not doing.  Dreams are important, but we have to take action to turn our dreams into reality.  Often we delay taking action, because we are waiting for everything to fall into place.  We want the perfect mix of time, money, education, experience, and assistance.  It would be wonderful to have this ideal situation, but rarely do we arrive at a place where everything is as we want it to be.  Sometimes we have to start where we are with what we have.  Sometimes we have to step out even though everything is not as we would like.  If we take one step, we are more likely to take another.

Do you have a dream that you have placed on hold?  Maybe it’s time to take the first step.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” – Lao Tzu

Step out and have a great week.

Happy Monday!

Ever wonder how you ended up where you are today, or where you will be tomorrow?

We are where we are on any given day due to the decisions that we made in the past.

Life is about more than what’s good for today.  Many of us focus only on what appears to be good for our life or business today with little to no thought to the long term impact of our decisions.  Yesterday, today and tomorrow intertwine.  The decisions that we made yesterday shaped our today.  The decisions that we make today will shape our tomorrow.

Where will the decisions that you make today take you tomorrow?  Remember.  Our decisions shape our lives.

Blessings!

Happy Monday!  Looking for the path to a great life?

Have more faith.  Complain less.  Appreciate more.  Speak less.  Listen more.  Hate less.  Love more.

This may not be the complete roadmap to a great life, but it’s a good start.

Blessings!

Happy Monday!

What do you spend most of your time thinking about?  What you have, or don’t have?

The reality of a situation is not always determined by the situation, but by how we view it.  When we focus on what we don’t have, we often overlook what we have.  Many of us spend time, energy and money searching for something that we think will bring us happiness only to discover that happiness is not created by what we have.  Happiness comes from within.  It’s the way that we think about and view life.

A Moment On Monday – 9/20/2010 (A Day Late)

Yesterday was my birthday, which is why this post is a day late.

This was one of my best birthdays.  I shared and celebrated with family and friends.  Along with all of the celebrating, I took time to reflect back over the year gone by.  The last year of my life had its ups and downs, but I enjoyed it.  I appreciate each and every moment of it.  I have much to be thankful for.  I’m healthy, happy, and I have a wonderful network of family and friends that stand by me through the good and the bad.  I’m grateful to be able to share my life with them and to be a part of theirs.

I spent much of my life chasing dreams that would be fulfilled (or not) at some point in the future.  Often times I so focused on what would or could be that I did not notice what was.

Yesterday I focused on what was happening in the moment.  Being in the present is something that I will carry with me as I go forward.  Yes, I still have plans, and I still look forward to the future.  But the moment that is most important to me at this time is the one that I’m living right now.

Life is lived in moments.  These moments only come around once.  Lets savor and enjoy them.

Blessings!

See.  Live.  Enjoy.
